Ian writes for people drawn to big questions, open to new ideas, ancient wisdom and tired of curated lives. His work resonates with immigrants navigating identity, idealists wrestling with social justice, and readers weary of shallow outrage who are searching instead for depth, courage and compassion.
Ian paints people, places and animals in oil, pastel, watercolour and acrylic mediums. He aims to capture emotionally moving, timeless moments, and narrative compositions in a variety of styles that share memories, tell stories and move hearts.

Ian speaks on art and faith, innovation and the entrepreneur’s journey. He also mentors entrepreneurs and business leaders struggling to build a business or bring innovative ideas to market.
Raised on a sheep farm in a small, Australian rural community, Ian studied mechanical engineering and began his career working for the Australian Army before heading overseas to Samoa to teach. Returning to Australia, he and his wife Heather settled in Melbourne where they raised their daughters Rosemary and Elizabeth.
In 1996 Ian completed a postgraduate degree focussed on the application of renewable energy in developing countries, and later joined Invetech – an international design consultancy based in Australia. There he led large project teams to design and manufacture world first products for global biomedical, consumer, industrial, food and pharmaceutical sectors, including some of the world’s largest companies and most recognised brands.
A lifelong Christian, Ian and Heather worship at Donvale Presbyterian Church where Ian has served as an Elder for 30 years.
Ian & Heather's adventures didn't start in Samoa – they very nearly didn't make it there in the first place. Get exclusive access to the "love before the store" by joining the VIP readers list today.
