Ian has been painting for many decades, using art as a way to slow down, observe more carefully, and make sense of the world through colour, light, and form.
Painting and writing are deeply connected in Ian’s creative life. Both are ways of paying attention — of noticing detail, holding complexity, and reflecting on the stories that shape how we see the world.
His work is deeply influenced by landscape, place, and the natural environment, often capturing moments of stillness, movement, and quiet reflection. He works primarily in oil and watercolour, allowing each medium to shape the mood and story of the piece.
Over the years, Ian has contributed to a range of projects, including large-scale murals at Belgrave Heights Convention Centre featuring Australian wildlife. He has also studied art in Florence, Italy — an experience that continues to influence his approach to composition, technique, and the emotional depth of his work.
